Kelso Avenue tram crossing in Anchorsholme

SAVED: Anchorsholme residents pulled together to save Kelso Avenue tram crossing

Blackpool North and Cleveleys MP, Paul Maynard, today praises the campaign of a local community in Anchorsholme who forced the Council to reverse a decision to close a tram crossing.

The Kelso Avenue crossing was due to be closed as part of the modernisation of the tram track, but would have isolated the community in and around Kelso Avenue and cutting off a vital car and pedestrian route to the local doctors surgery.

Heading up the campaign with community volunteers Councillor Tony Williams who initially got Paul involved.  Paul raised the issue with council boss, Steve Weaver and Peter and Maxine Callow.

Commenting, “Its great to see a positive result here.  I am so glad that the council listened to local people and came to the right decision, but what I am most impressed with is the way a community came together to defend its rights.  People power does and should work.

I am glad I played a small part in this victory, but most credit goes to the local community and to Tony Williams who was a persistent advocate of keeping the crossing open.”
